Plan Before Work Starts

A rewire should be designed around the property and your plans

We assess the existing installation, discuss how each room will be used and agree the required circuits, outlets, lighting and future capacity before pricing the work. The quotation sets out the intended scope and any assumptions clearly.

When Rewiring May Be Appropriate

Replace What Is Necessary — Not Simply What Is Old

A rewire may be considered where wiring is deteriorated, extensively altered, unable to support planned work or has significant safety defects. Age alone does not prove that every cable needs replacing, so the starting point is a proper assessment rather than an automatic recommendation.

For occupied homes, access, furniture, floor finishes and temporary loss of power can affect the programme. We discuss these practical points before work begins and coordinate with your builder or other trades where the rewire forms part of a wider refurbishment.

If the condition of the installation is uncertain, a homeowner EICR can provide a documented assessment before a rewiring decision is made.

Common Questions

FAQs — House Rewiring

Does an older house automatically need rewiring?
No. The need for rewiring depends on the condition, suitability and safety of the installation, not age alone. An inspection or EICR can help establish what requires attention.
Can part of a house be rewired?
Yes. Partial rewiring can be appropriate for an extension, kitchen, loft conversion or selected circuits, provided the retained installation is suitable and the interfaces are properly assessed.
Will floors and walls need to be disturbed?
Rewiring usually requires access for new cables and accessories. The extent depends on the construction and refurbishment plans. We explain likely access requirements before pricing.
Can you work with my builder or designer?
Yes. Where the electrical work forms part of a refurbishment, we can coordinate the agreed electrical scope with the relevant trades and programme.
Will I receive electrical certification?
Appropriate electrical certification is provided for notifiable and other certifiable work as required by the scope of the installation.
How long does a rewire take?
Timing depends on the size, construction, occupancy and agreed scope. We discuss the likely programme after assessing the property rather than promising a standard duration.
Do you cover my area?
Inspect Electrical is based in Chislehurst and serves homes across Blackheath, Bickley, Bromley, Lee, Eltham, Greenwich and wider South East London.
